Exemplary Reference Awards for December 2007

The Quality Assurance Workgroup has been hard at work and has awarded the following transcripts for December Exemplary Reference Awards of the Month. Transcripts were awarded in three categories: Best Detailed Chat, Best Brief Chat, and Best Teaching Chat. Wendy Dover from Gulf Coast Community College will receive a gift card to Amazon.com for her Exemplary Detailed Chat and all three winners will receive a certificate at a presentation at this year’s Florida Library Association Annual Meeting in St Petersburg, Florida.

Exemplary Brief Chat:
Laura Ramirez, Nova Southeastern University on 12/14/2007. Laura helped a patron find the sign in for a Mystery Book Club on the library website that wasn’t easy to find. Laura called the library when she couldn’t find the sign in and asked where it was so she could tell the patron.

For Exemplary Detailed Chat:
Wendy Dover, Gulf Coast Community College on 12/10/2007. Wendy Dover answered some questions about the MLS degree. She walked patron through the ALA website for more information. The website offered enough information and links that the patron could have been confused had Wendy not offered instruction.

For Exemplary Teaching Chat:
Tomiko Kutnya, Alachua County Library District on 12/13/2007. Tomiko worked patiently with a high school student who was doing research on the topic of obesity. Tomika used cobrowse to show the student the Florida Electronic Library resources. Good teaching!
