The Quality Assurance Workgroup has been hard at work and has awarded the following transcripts for April Exemplary Reference Awards of the Month. Transcripts were awarded in three categories: Best Detailed Chat, Best Brief Chat, and Best Teaching Chat. Ellen Book from Miami Dade Public Library will receive a gift card to Amazon.com for his Exemplary Detailed Chat and all three winners will receive a certificate at a presentation at next year’s Florida Library Association Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida.

    Detailed Exemplary Chat
Ellen Book, Miami Dade Public Library.

Ellen used her considerable experience with patent research to help this customer understand the process and how its changed since more of the records have been digitized. She also offered contact information for other patent professionals in case the customer wanted to know more.

    Teaching Exemplary Chat
Susan Livingston, South Florida Community College
    .
Susan did an excellent job of chatting with the student about a research topic for a Communications paper. Susan addressed the student’s real issue which was to think of keywords that would be useful in searching the databases for journal articles on the topic.

    Brief Exemplary Chat
    Louis Rosen, Intern.

Louis displayed good reference interviewing, searching, and follow-up skills in this brief and helpful chat.
