November 1998
Happy Autumn! I would like to begin by thanking all members for their support with our first two programs. A special thanks to Ellie Lopez of Fowler, White for hosting an interesting Public Records research discussion at the October meeting. The lunch was very well attended with over 30 people! The CFALL Executive Committee would also like to thank Lexis-Nexis for contributing the desserts for the luncheon.
Please plan ahead for our upcoming events! Anne Ellis of West Online will be presenting an Intranet seminar at the Hyatt in Downtown Tampa this month. We are pleased to have Anne come back to visit her old CFALL friends! Remember to RSVP early for this lunch as space is limited. The Holiday Party is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 10th at the Tampa Club. Great work, Nora!
If you have any ideas for programs, the Executive Committee would love to hear from you. We are still in need of ideas and helpers for the Spring 1999 meetings (March/April/May).

We had an incredible turnout for our October meeting! It was hosted by Ellie Lopez at Fowler, White, Gillen, Boggs, Villareal & Banker, P.A. in downtown Tampa, on Wednesday, October 21, 1998 at 12:00. Two of the paralegals at Fowler, White shared their strategy for conducting public records research.
Susan Dipaola works in the Class Action/Health Care section of the Business Litigation department at Fowler, White. She presented many excellent web resources for public records information. Kelly Foster works as a Labor and Employement paralegal and discussed background investigations.
New members attending their first meeting included Charlotte Truitt of the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital, Tim Pasden of W.T. Cox Subscriptions, Deidra Payne and Shawna Childress with Lexis-Nexis and Helen Beaulieu and Kelli Johnson with Special Library Service. We also had several guests at this meeting including two students from USF and two Lexis-Nexis representatives.
If anyone missed the public records handouts and would like a copy, please let us know.
Our January meeting will be held at the new library at Stetson College of Law in St. Petersburg, on Wednesday, January 20, 1999 at 12:00. We will grab lunch in the Stetson cafeteria before the meeting. In addition to touring the new library, we will have a panel discussion on "What law school students expect from the law firm library?" Anyone who is interested in carpooling from downtown Tampa, please contact Liz or Wanda. More information about this meeting will be faxed or e-mailed out in late December.

The CFALL meeting took place at noon, 16 September 1998 at the Grill at Feather Sound in Clearwater. Twelve members attended the inaugural meeting of President Liz McCambridge's administration. Liz opened the meeting with a quick introduction and congratulations to Vice President Wanda Barrett on the Association's first web-based newsletter. She asked that ideas and announcements for the newsletter be forwarded to Wanda.
The President proceeded to detail the organization of Committees for the 1998/1999 year, and to ask for volunteers. She proposed three committees (in addition to the Executive Committee):
Program Committee: The Committee will plan 1999 events. One popular suggestion was to have a forum with librarians and management information system people. The Committee will work with the Executive Committee to plan upcoming meetings.
Membership Committee: The Committee's task will be to call and ask non-members to our meetings; follow up with people who haven't renewed; and to contact USF to invite students to join our meetings.
Bylaws Committee: The Committee will make a review of the bylaws for possible amendments.
Liz went on to say that the minutes of the Association would now be posted on the CFALL ListServ.
Finally, the President announced the following upcoming events:
10/21/98 Public Records Research at Fowler, White, et al in Tampa.
11/13/98 Intranet presentation by Anne Ellis of West Online, in Tampa.
12/98 Christmas Party.
1/20/99 Legislative Research on the Web at Stetson.
2/99 Lexis-sponsored meeting.
The President adjourned the meeting, and the members scarfed up the food.

Lexis-Nexis will sponsor our February meeting, to be held on February
17, 1999 in downtown Tampa. The speaker, Alirio Gomez, is the Director of
Library and Information Services for Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy
in New York. He has designed an excellent intranet/extranet web page for
his firm and he has ingeniously incorporated online services onto the
various pages. You can look at their library website at
http://www.milbank.com/library/library.html. The site
contains links to a lot of very useful information on the Web. More
information about this meeting will be sent out in January.
In the coming decade, the ability of Information Professionals and
Information Systems Specialists to work together will be vital to the success of
any organization. Your MIS directors are invited to our March meeting for a
round table discussion of issues that we must
face together. The focus will be on Year 2000
solutions for library related software. All of our
vendor members will be asked to share information
with us on this issue. Hopefully, a joint meeting
between librarians and technicians will improve our
relationships in the workplace, and allow our organizations
to best utilize technology. The meeting will be held on
St. Patrick's Day, Wednesday, March 17, 1999. Please let your MIS
folks know about this meeting in advance and don't forget to wear green!
