What's New in Delivery Services

October 19, 2005

New Delivery Labels

Please download the new delivery labels.

January 30, 2004

To Florida Libraries Participating in Statewide Delivery

We are pleased to announce that we have signed a contract with Velocity to provide statewide courier service. We are working closely with Velocity to ensure that there will be minimal disruption of service. Here are the details:

  • The cost will remain the same for the rest of this year and 2004/05.
  • Library processes will remain the same.
  • The current vendor will make their last delivery on Wednesday, February 4, and Velocity service will begin on February 5th. The current vendor will not pick-up additional packages on the 4th; libraries should hold those until their next regularly scheduled pick-up day for Velocity.
  • New labels will be available on the website http:www.tblc.org/delivery/documentation.shtml by the end of business today. Please discard all old labels. The searchable address list on the website will also be updated by the end of business today.
  • We do not know the times that drivers will arrive at libraries when the new vendor begins service on February 5. The contract calls for delivery between 8:30 and 5. We anticipate that the time of delivery and pickup will become consistent within a couple of days and that libraries and drivers will develop relationships and coordination.

Thank you for your patience and good will as we have gone through this process. If you have questions, contact Vicki Frost at frostv@tblc.org or 813-622-8252 or me (Charlie Parker) at cparker@tblc.org or 813-622-8252.

To Florida Libraries Participating in Statewide Delivery

We announced on Wednesday, January 14 that the statewide courier service vendor had cancelled their contract and would discontinue service on February 4. We issued an RFP, have selected a vendor, and anticipate having a contract in place very soon. Here is what we believe users can anticipate.

  • The cost will remain the same for the rest of this year and 2004/05.
  • There will be no or little disruption of service.
  • Library processes will remain the same.
  • Libraries will need to use different labels that we will make available on the web well in advance.

We anticipate making an official announcement Friday.

TBLC has issued an RFP to identify and select a new courier service provider to service the Florida Library Network Statewide Ground Delivery System.

We will be selecting a vendor in the coming days. The goal is to make the transition without an interruption in service.

Look for announcements on this list and on the Delivery website at http://www.tblc.org/dlli to keep you informed as we move through this process.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at 800-622-8252 or deliver@tblc.org

January 14, 2004To Florida Libraries Participating in Statewide Delivery

As you are aware, the Tampa Bay Library Consortium (TBLC) is the agent for the "Florida Library Network Statewide Ground Delivery System." We have been notified that the courier vendor is canceling the contract effective February 4 and we are working to ensure that if there is any service interruption, it will be brief.

We are in communication with Florida courier service providers and will issue an RFP by the end of business Wednesday. We are doing everything in our power to continue reliable, affordable service with the least possible interruption.

Last year Florida libraries...

  • Sent almost 700,000 packages (Good Things Come In Orange Bags!);
  • Moved over 1.1 million items (average of 1.6 items per bag);
  • Conducted an estimated 600,000 interlibrary borrowing transactions; and
  • Saved an estimated $514,908.96 over US Postal Service.

We will provide additional information as it is available. If you have questions, contact Vicki Frost at frostv@tblc.org or 813-622-8252 or me (Charlie Parker) at cparker@tblc.org or 813-622-8252.

July 2003

In order to provide for the continuing stability of the program and to cover vendor price increases, it will be necessary to increase the per day cost for participants. This is the first increase in cost per day of service since the program began. The cost for one day of service for the year will be $500 per stop.

The chart below outlines the annual cost for each service configuration:

  • 1 day per week    $500
  • 3 days per week   $1,500
  • 5 days per week   $2,500

Scholarships of up to $150 for the year will be offered to 1 day per week sites.

July 2002

All libraries in Pinellas, Sarasota and Manatee counties now use the depot suffix SPG.

New mailing labels were sent out to all participating delivery libraries. The searchable delivery list on this website has been updated and the mailing labels on the website will be updated shortly.
