Computer Use and Internet Access Policy:
- Your library provides computer workstations with software programs and Internet access for the information and leisure interests of the general public.
- Electronic resources are selected to enhance the library's information sources and are guided by the library's mission and collection development policy.
- Internet access is subject to federal and state laws: (1) Florida Statute 847, which prohibits viewing obscenity, text or graphic, and (2) CIPA (Child Internet Protection Act) which requires filtering of obscene images. Ask at the Reference Desk for further information on these laws and for full Access to Electronic Resources Policy.
- Your library's Internet filter blocks obscene images and youth access to myspace.com. Under CIPA law, customers 17 and older may request disabling of the filter; however, such customers are still obligated to abide by the library's Code of Conduct and Florida Statutes.
- If you'd like a site evaluated for unblocking, a web site review form is available at the reference desk.
- Computer workstation behavior is subject to the library Code of Conduct . Failure to comply with computer conduct and operational rules may result in the loss of computer privileges. Inappropriate computer behavior includes the following:
- Displaying, printing, sending or storing obscene, threatening, or harassing material.
- Using Chat or Instant Messaging.
- Installing, downloading, or modifying computer software.
- Damaging, altering, or modifying computer equipment or networks.
- Violating copyright or trademark laws, software licensing agreements or intellectual property rights.
Operational Rules include:
- Privacy: Customers will respect the privacy of others.
- Child Safety: Any child under 9 years old must be accompanied by a parent or designated guardian while using computers with Internet access.
- Child Safety: Parents or designated guardians are responsible for overseeing their children's Internet use and have the right to limit or restrict such access by request.
- Reservations: Reserve your computer session at the computer terminal. If all computers are in use, reservations are handled at the Reference Desk.
- Session Length: Reservations are timed for 30 minutes. If no reservations are waiting, you may select to extend time for 10-minute intervals. Maximum session time during peak times is one hour. If you have been in extended time, please comply with staff messages asking you to close your session.
- Computers may be reserved by the library for scheduled training classes and tutorials.
- Customers taking online exams or completing forms, which may require more than a 30-minute session, may request longer session times during non-peak times. Ask ahead of time.
- Do not shutdown or reboot the computers. Ask for assistance at the Reference Desk.
