Collection

The library houses a growing collection of materials on Deaf Culture and Literacy. The collection is searchable in the SunCat Catalog under keyword search - Deaf Collection, or you may ask library staff for a current list of materials. We have added a new collection of Deaf materials that can be searched in the Sun Cat Catalog under Series search: PPLC Deaf Collection.

Free Equipment for the Hearing Impaired

The Deaf and Hearing Connection for Tampa Bay offers an FTRI program that provides free equipment for qualified Florida residents who are deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired. The equipment will be loaned for as long as needed. Examples of the available equipment include specialized telephones and ring signaling devices. For more information please call 727-399-9983 or email FTRIRDC@deafservicecenter.org. FTRI will be at the Safety Harbor Library the 4th Thursday of every month for telephone distribution 1:00-3:00pm.

Computer Skills for the Deaf
Individual computer tutorial. Registration required. Call x232 for an appointment.

Basic Deaf Literacy
Wednesdays 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Includes reading, writing and computer skills. Call x232 for an appointment.

Children's Sign Language
Ages 5-12. Mondays, 4:00-5:00 pm. June 16 to July 28. Next session starts Monday, August 18. Sign Language vocabulary, stories and crafts or activities for children. No registration required. Meets in the Deaf Literacy Center.

Adult Intermediate Sign Language Course
Mondays, 7:00-7:50 pm. June 16 to July 28. Next session starts Monday, August 18.The course includes conversational Sign Language, stories, songs and skits. No registration required.
