Sites of Interest?
Thanks to our resident Internet Watcher, Shirl Kennedy, Web Guide Topic Manager, Business 2.0, who submitted these two sites of interest:
Library Juice, an "alternative" library e-mail newsletter with a "progressive" slant.
Note from the editor/publisher, Rory Litwin:
Library Juice is a news digest for librarians, library and information science students, and other interested people. It includes announcements, many web resources, calls for papers, and news affecting the library world. Much of the material has a social-responsibilities or intellectual freedom focus. It is not a discussion list but a digest of material from a variety of sources. However, you are welcome to submit material directly to me.
Library Juice is composed mostly of email culled from approximately three dozen listservs (see below), and occasional editorials and abstracts written for the publication.
I put about ten hours per week into the production of Library Juice and the maintenance of the website, and pay about $25 per month for the web and mail hosting. I recoup some of my expenses through reader contributions, and have started asking for a voluntary donation of $10 per year. You can mail a heck (made out to Rory Litwin) to 1821 "O" St. Apt. 9, Sacramento, CA 9814-6136. Your support is appreciated.
If you would like to contact me with any questions or ideas, you can mail me at rory@libr.org.
Library Juice is indexed by Index Morganagus
Another offbeat site that Shirl watches regularly is a weblog called The End
of Free ("chronicling free to fee and beyond"). It tracks the many
Internet sites and services that are moving from free to some sort of paid
model.

August Minutes
The August 22, 2001 lunch meeting was held at USF Bayboro campus library. Ray Eydmann, President, kicked the meeting off by welcoming attendees.
He also announced that Pat Boody has taken a position within the Information Technology Strategies Department at Tampa Electric Co. We wish her the best, and will miss her in the research department.
Deb Henry of USF St. Petersburg also gave a warm welcome to attendees, and the group made introductions all around.
Wanda Barrett, President Elect, led a discussion regarding the October meeting, which will be hosted by the USF Student Chapters of ALA, SLA, and ASIS. The meeting will tentatively be held at USF Tampa Campus during the first week of October. In addition, the SIS meeting will be held jointly with CFALL, and one potential discussion topic will be copyright issues. More information will follow.
Barrett also requested suggestions for the annual December party - a dinner cruise and a "Duck Tour" were among the suggestions mentioned.
The speaker for the meeting was Kathy Arsenalt, who has recently been named the Library Director of USF at St. Petersburg (Bayboro campus). She gave a fascinating talk and tour of their Special Collection, which includes a diverse collection of documents and photographs.
Some of the major collections include:
All of the materials in the Special Collection are available for viewing by
appointment, and most are searchable in the USF web catalog.
