Biographical Sites for Inventors 

National Inventors Hall of Fame. Biographies (with portraits) of the members can be located by name or by invention.  

This Mining Company site has biographies of inventors, stories of well known (and not so well known) inventions, articles and other invention and inventor related resources. Has links for women inventors, patent attorneys and young inventors.  

People and Discoveries.  Brief biographies of more than 40 of the Twentieth Century's most significant inventors and scientists.

A & E's Biography's web site offers brief and basic biographical information for over 20,000 of history's most famous people.  

Virtual Reference Desk's biography section now lists 39 biographical web sites ranging from Roman emperors to rock stars.  

People of Past and Present 1 A set of individual and collective biographical resources recommended for children from kindergarten through junior high school by the American Library Association. You can also find information here on world history and culture.  

Lives, the Biography Resource. Asserts to be the largest guide to biographical information on the web. Has several special collections as well as links to individual biographical sources. Includes resources on biographical criticism.  

The Star Archive. Addresses and information for over 6000 celebrities.  

ABC News Newsmarker Bios. Part of ABC News's Reference web site this link provides brief biographical data (including date of birth, education or background and a phogotgaph) for selected figures in the news.  

The Top 50 Floridians of the 20th Century. Complied by the Lakeland Ledger biographies of  50 native and resident Floridians who made a major impact on the politics, art, culture, sports and economic life this state and the nation.

Biographical Directory of the United States Congress: 1774 to present. Brief biographical information for all 13,000 men and women who have served in Congress.  

Biographies of the Founding FathersThe biographies are scanned from two 19th century sources, Lives of the Signers to the Declaration of Independence, by the Rev. Charles A. Goodrich. Published in 1829 and The United States Manual of Biography and History, by James V. Marshall, published in 1856. The biographies are divided among Signers of the Declaration of Independence, Signers of the Articles of Confederation and Signers of the Constitition..

The biographies are indexed alphabetically and chronologically. Each biography includes dates of birth and death, a portrait, a concise account of the mathematician's life and career, and links to further information. Classical Composers Database. A very extensive (currently 800 entries) directory with frequent updates.  
Composer Biographies. A somewhat more limited selection of composers, but includes most of the better known.  
Classic Composers' Archive. Allows searching by nationality and time period as well as by name. Probably best viewed with the most  up to date versions of  Internet Explorer or Netscape (versions 4.0 or higher)
