Bartelby.com Reference. A "one stop" online source for classic ready reference materials, including dictionaries,  thesauri,  quotations and encyclopedias.
My Virtual Reference Desk. A very large collection of reference sources in many subjects. Also includes multiple current news sources.
Research It!   is a one stop  site for for answering quick reference questions.
Information Please. Almanac type information covering U.S., World, Sports, Entertainment, etc., from Information Please Almanacs.
National Geographic Publications Index. An online index to (among other resources) over a century's worth of National Geographic Magazines.
The Virtual Reference Desk Dictionary section includes links to over 200 dictionaries, including English foreign language dictionaries, guides to grammar and specialized lexicons.
LibrarySport  A variety of resources including calculators,  alamacs, experts and online books

Special Reference Tools

Data Services.  Astronomical information (sunrise, sunset, eclipses, phases of the moon, etc.) provided by the U.S. Naval Observatory.  The place to go if  you need to find out when the sun will rise (or set) on a given day.
Zip Code Look Up.  From the U.S. Postal Service 
Symbols.com. An online dictionary of  2500 Western signs arranged in 54 groups of graphic characteristics. Signs can be looked by name or by description. Time period of the symbols range from the Stone Age to today. 
The Etymology of First Names. The origins of names in many languages.
Perpetual Calendar. Retrieves month and day for any given year 
Finding Images on the Web. A directory of web sites and search engines designed to find Web based pictures.
Maloney's Online Antiques and Collectibles Resource Directory. An invaluable resource for locating information about antiques or collectibles.  In each category Maloney may offer links to appraisers, experts, dealers, societies, suppliers, museums, internet resources or periodicals.

English Language Dictionaries and Resources

The Early Modern English Dictionaries Database.  "Edited by Ian Lancashire of the Department of English at the University of Toronto this online database offers access to 127,000 word entries from eleven dictionaries from 1530 to 1657. Several search options are available and users may select individual dictionaries or all of them.
