Aministration on Aging. Extensive collection of information for senior citizens, including the National Aging Information Center, a subject directory of web sites on issues of concern to the elderly and their families. This  includes an extensive directory for nursing homes, which includes consumer guides, fact sheets, state directories,  oversight reports. statistics and research reports.  
Pension Search Directory. Created by the Department of Labor, this site helps people determine if they or someone they know is entitled to a pension benefit. Searches can be done by name, by company or by state.

Nursing Home Guide. Searchable by region or by characteristics of the facility.  Ratings (1-5 stars) are provided Includes a guide for selecting a nursing home and alternatives to nursing home care. 
Florida Department of Health Medical Quality Assurance Page.  This site provides information for both health practitioners (licensing and certification information) and health consumers.  Its Practitioner Profile provides essential background information physicans practicing in Florida, including education, professional training, and any liability claims or disciplinary actions on file 
Florida Department of Elder Affairs.  Services and online information publications for the elderly. 
Senior Health. Includes forms for living wills and health care surrogates, information about prescription drugs long term health care, nursing homes and Medicare and Medicaid. 


From our Medical section: 

Ecin Extended Care Information Network. This a directory of  nursing homes, home health care agencies, hospices, retirement communities, pediatric facilities and long term care institutions. It is national in scope with some 40,000 institutions listed in over 8,500 cities. The site does not rate or evaluate the facilities. Another feature is a link a an e-mail newsletter the ECIN Newsletter.  

HFCA -Nursing Home Compare. Summaries of inspection reports on every Medicare or Medicaid certified nursing home in the country. Facilities can be located by state, county, zip code, city or by the name of the facility. Reports include ownership, contact information and the results and date of the last inspection. Scope and severity of care deficiencies are given in graphic form. 

American Geriatrics Society. "The AGS Foundation for Health in Aging's Web site provides news releases on issues such as the Clinton Administration's proposed long-term care initiative and Congress approved Health Professions Bill; and an article on clinical practice guidelines on pain management (in PDF). At the Patient Education Forum, you will find questions and answer pages on a growing list of topics such as Alzheimer's disease; safe driving for seniors; urinary incontinence; falls and balance problems; and end of life care.
