Delivery hiatus

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Going on vacation? So are we!

Florida Library Delivery service will be closed for Thanksgiving on Thursday, Nov. 27, and Friday, Nov. 28.

Additionally, due to high fuel costs, Delivery will take a hiatus from Dec. 22, 2008 to Jan. 2, 2009. Although we padded our Delivery budget for rising fuel costs, we did not anticipate the huge fluctuations in gas prices we experienced this past year. Ceasing Delivery for just two weeks will save our program thousands of dollars and will get our budget back on track.

This hiatus means that Delivery drivers will not pick up or deliver any orange bags from Dec. 22 through Jan. 2. We will resume our normal schedule on Monday, Jan. 5.

We very carefully chose to stop Delivery on these dates because it will cause the least amount of impact and inconvenience to all of you. Because of the holidays, those two weeks are Delivery’s slowest time of year and many libraries are closed.

We apologize for any inconvenience that our hiatus may cause. If you have any questions, please contact us at (800) 622-8252 or deliver@tblc.org.

Friday, November 14th, 2008

Edge Entertainment Distribution is a 35-year-old commercial distributer/supplier of AV materials (CD and DVD). Their focus has always been “don’t overpay for A/V materials.” Given this period of tight budgets, Edge Entertainment is offering deep discount programs to TBLC members.

Libraries in Florida who order from Edge Entertainment enjoy:
1. Fast free next day shipping
2. Over 450,000 titles and easy to use web site
3. The best price performance in the AV industry.

TBLC members are now receiving…

1. Additional discount of 5.0% off the already deeply discounted costs of DVD & CDs for the period from November 1 to December 31, 2008.  Note that members can see Edge cost of goods on our web site at www.arrdis.com. Please call Elizabeth Kimbler for sign-on information at 877-542-3837 (877-LIB-DVDS).  Edge Prices are always 30%+ off list price without the TBLC discount so with the additional discount the percentage off list averages 35%.

What do you want to know?

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

The Boston Public Library recently showcased its clever new advertising campaign created by Allen & Gerritsen of Watertown, MA.

The advertising campaign titled “what do you want to know?” was created to help remind residents and visitors, scholars and students, businesses and families, and seniors and children alike of the vital and friendly resource they have in the Boston Public Library. A&G made our library staff the heroes of the campaign – positioning them as The Ultimate Search Engines. They’re here to answer any question you have, and they’re reachable 24 hours a day by phone, by email or by visiting one of our branches across the city.

The campaign consists of a new BPL logo and tagline, radio commercials, print advertising, out-of home advertising and television commercials – all of which feature real BPL staff and librarians.
